The association Kinor David was born in 2000. Zacharia Zorin, artistic director, wanted to honor his master David Oïstrach (whose nickname while he was alive was "king David"), and honor the kinor, one of the first musical instruments invented by men (lyre/harp, ancester of the violin) and played by King David.
Founders of the Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves, Zacharia and Zoya Zorin had the desire to contribute to the Bordeaux area musical life, city that welcomed them more than 30 years ago. Zacharia Zorin, violinist with russian backgrounds, was the concert master of the Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine from 1980 to 2005. He was also the founder of the Institut Professionnel du Violon of Bordeaux (1990-1996).
As a soloist, chamber music partner and conductor, he played on every stage of the region. He gave with his wife Zoya Zorin, passionate teacher, headmaster of the Leognan Music School, pianist for the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux (1981-1983), a number of recitals and master classes throughout France and Europe. Co-artistic director of the Rencontres des Graves, Max Zorin, violinist, former student of the Conservatory of Bordeaux (1981 to 1989), Juilliard School and Yale University graduate, doctor from the Stony Brook University is now a teacher at Penn State University in the US. He's touring internationally and is still very attached to Bordeaux.
Eager to share their diverse and rich experience with young musicians, the Zorin family runs the Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves, happy synthetis of their passion for stage and pedagogy.
